ALT BLK ERA Comic

Character Design - Typography - Layout and Formatting

I was commissioned by ALT BLK ERA to create the full visual identity for their album Rave Immortal— into a comic book that transforms their music into a raw, emotional visual journey.

This project was based around themes of illness, disability, loneliness, friendship, resilience, and defiance— turning this into a visual narrative that runs parallel to the music.

Accessibility was also really important throughout this project. I followed Dyslexie Font guidelines to make the comic dyslexia-friendly, using inclusive layouts and type settings so it could be read and enjoyed by everyone.

Each chapter took inspiration from a different track on the album. I mixed hand-drawn illustrations with typography and layout design to build a world that moves between gritty realism and surreal fantasy — much like the band’s sound itself.

Character design was very important in this project as it closely follows the resemblance of the band members, Chaya and Nyrobi. I used the client's brief for the characters and created a twist on a Tim Burton style character.

This sketch was my very first sketch of the project and was done to create the basis of the character design to build upon. We later adapted the clothes to a much more modern style for the first few chapters of the comic to reflect the band's personal styles and personalities.
